Who we are
Elemento is reinforcement detailing software for Autodesk Revit, developed and run in South Africa. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Elemento.
We are the responsible party for your personal information under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Our Information Officer can be reached at support@elemento.tools. Write to that address about anything in this policy.
The short version
- Browsing this website collects nothing about you. There are no tracking cookies and no analytics.
- When you buy or try Elemento, we keep your contact details so we can issue and support your licence.
- Elemento checks its licence with our server every few days. That check sends your activation code, a scrambled machine ID and your computer's name.
- Error reports are sent only if you agree, and you can switch them off any time under Help ▸ About.
- A message you write under Help ▸ Support is sent only when you press Send, with your Revit and Elemento versions, and your log only if you tick the box.
- We never sell your information, and we never see your card details.
Visiting this website
This website sets no tracking cookies and uses no analytics or advertising tools. Its fonts are stored with the site itself, so your browser does not contact Google or any other font service.
Like every website, our host (Vercel) records basic technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser type and the page asked for. It uses this to run and protect the service and keeps it for a short time. We do not use it to identify you.
Buying a licence
When you buy Elemento we collect:
- your first name, surname, company, e-mail address, country and phone number
- the plan, billing period and number of seats you chose
- the payment reference and whether the payment went through
We use this to take your payment, issue your licence, send you your activation code and invoice, and help you if something goes wrong. We need it to fulfil our agreement with you, and we keep invoices because tax law requires it.
Payments are handled by Stitch. You enter your card or bank details on Stitch's page, and we never see or store them.
The free 30-day trial
When you request a trial from inside Elemento, we collect:
- your first name, surname, company, e-mail address, country and phone number
- how you heard about us, if you choose to tell us
- your computer's scrambled machine ID and its Windows computer name (see the next section)
We use this to issue the trial, e-mail you your activation code, contact you about the trial, and enforce one trial per computer. We will only send you marketing if you have agreed to it, and every such e-mail lets you stop it.
Activating and renewing your licence
Elemento checks its licence with our licence server when you activate it, every few days while you use it, and when you deactivate it. Each check sends:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your activation code | To find your licence. |
| A scrambled machine ID | To tie the licence to one computer. It is a one-way code made from a Windows identifier, so it cannot be traced back to that identifier or matched with other software. |
| Your computer’s Windows name | So you and our support can tell your computers apart when you move a licence. |
| Your IP address | Our server sees it with every request and stores the latest one, to spot a licence being shared or misused. |
| The Elemento version | To know which version you are running when you ask for help. |
Nothing about your projects, your models or your work is ever sent as part of a licence check.
Error reports
When a tool in Elemento fails, it can quietly send a report so we can find and fix the problem. It does this only if you agreed: the setup asks once, and you can switch it on or off at any time under Help ▸ About ▸ Send error reports. Switching it off stops sending at once and deletes any reports still waiting to be sent.
A report contains:
- the error itself and where in Elemento it happened
- the recent part of Elemento's log file
- your Elemento, Revit and Windows versions, your Windows language setting, your licence status, your licensee name and the last four characters of your activation code
- the scrambled machine ID
Before anything is sent, Elemento removes your Windows user name, your computer's name, any e-mail addresses, and the names and folders of your Revit models, families and templates. Reports never include your models, and never include Revit's own errors or those of other add-ins.
Reports go to Sentry, an error-tracking service, and are stored in the European Union (Frankfurt). Sentry also records the approximate location (city and country) of the internet connection a report arrives from. Reports are kept for 30 days.
Contacting support
When you send a message with Help ▸ Support in Elemento, we receive:
- what you chose and typed: the kind of message, the tool it is about, your name, e-mail address and message, and a rating or importance where the form asks for one
- your Elemento, Revit and Windows versions, your Windows language setting, your licence status, your licensee name and the last four characters of your activation code
- the scrambled machine ID — but not your computer's name
- your IP address, which our server sees with every request; we keep it to stop the form being misused
- the recent part of Elemento's log file, only if you tick “Attach my Elemento log file”. It is cleaned first, exactly as for error reports.
Nothing is sent until you press Send. We use it only to answer you and to fix what you report. Your message is stored on our server and e-mailed to our support inbox. The log goes only in that e-mail; it is not stored on our server. Support messages are kept for 2 years.
What stays on your computer
Elemento keeps its settings, presets, licence file and log in your Windows profile (%AppData%\Elemento). None of it leaves your computer except as described above. Uninstalling Elemento keeps these files so a reinstall picks up where you left off; you can delete the folder yourself at any time.
Information stored outside South Africa
Some of the providers above store information outside South Africa. We use them only where they are bound by law or by agreement to protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Customer, order and invoice records | While your account is active, then 5 years (tax and accounting records) |
| Trial requests | 2 years |
| Licence activations and checks | While the licence is active, then 1 year |
| Error reports | 30 days |
| Support messages | 2 years |
After that it is deleted, or kept only in a form that no longer identifies you.
How we protect it
Everything Elemento and this website send travels encrypted (HTTPS). Licences are digitally signed, so they cannot be forged or altered. Access to customer records is limited to the people who need it to run Elemento, and every administrator sign-in is checked against a fixed list.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct information that is wrong or out of date
- delete information we no longer need or are not allowed to keep
- stop using your information for a purpose you object to, such as marketing
- withdraw a consent you gave, such as error reports
E-mail support@elemento.tools. We will reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm who you are first. Deleting your records also ends any licence they belong to.
Complaints
Please contact us first so we can put it right. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects what Elemento sends from your computer, we will say so in Elemento's release notes too.
